Over the summer I worked part time for Temple Square Hospitality. I was surrounded by different desserts at every event. One of the best perks to my job was occasionally enjoying a sweet dessert.

I started out sketching many of the different buffet items that are used for an event. Items such as: lobster tongs, bird tongs, dressing spoons, dimple trays, and plates. Then I realized I would find more enjoyment in creating icons of the desserts. I sketched different angles for each dessert.

The vector draft below was creating using stroke instead of fill. During class I learned that it is better to draw your icons using shape. Outlining the icons makes them feel like a clip art. Many of my peers advised me to pick one angle to unify my icons.

It was very fulfilling (to my eyes not my stomach) to see these twelve icons come to life! They are unified in the slight light direction, the colors are consistent and the design is very clean.
